CycleSprog reviews the Kidvelo Rookie 12
Kidvelo Rookie 12 is the first of our balance bike reviews by Cyclesprog, the Family Cycling Blog.
We may be a new brand to the market we launched in Autumn 2021 but we have years of experience. We were in the game from the start!
Kidvelo’s founders would happily spend hours telling you why our bikes are so good. That’s all fine but we know you need independent experts to give it the once over. So we asked Cyclesprog to review the Rookie 12″ balance bike. Cyclesprog reviews every decent bike brand and gives their honest opinion.
We can’t stress enough the importance of parents researching before buying
We have always stressed the need for parents to do their research before purchasing a balance bike. There are so many ambiguities, such as seat post heights that actually won’t fit the child, even if the brand says it does. It’s part of the reason we are so transparent on geometry. Kidvelo always advises parents measure their children’s inseam to make sure it’s a good fit BEFORE they buy a bike. A bike that is too big will put your child off. Likewise, it’s advisable to check the weight of a bike. We see many brands advertising lightweight balance bikes but when you drill down they can be up to 4.5 kg, which is way too heavy for an 18-month-old child.
If you need advice on measuring your child we have written a simple kids’ bike size guide so you can avoid the pitfalls. Another new feature on the Cyclesprog website is their kids’ bike search. It shows who and what is in stock.
“From the strong style and paint job through to the attention to detail, I’m a big fan of the Rookie 12. The proof will be in the riding, but I’m quietly confident that this bike will be a winner with our testers. The lightweight frame and modern, confidence-inspiring geometry should make for a fun ride and allow for small riders to progress and experiment with their cycling. With its competitive price, warranty, quality, and availability, I think Kidvelo is onto a winner.”
